Advanced Materials and components
Master alloys are composed of a base metal enriched with a relatively high percentage of one or more alloying elements. The mixture of the master alloy with selected powders allows the alloying elements of the resulting metal powder to be customized, in such a way that the chemical composition of the component manufactured using additive technologies is adjusted.
Powdered master alloys offer an important development path in the field of design and testing of new materials adapted to manufacturing processes using 3D printing technologies, favoring the obtention of metal powders with graduated chemical compositions in a safe and agile way.
AZTERLAN has capacities to cast and atomize custom-metallic materials making it possible to create iron, aluminum, nickel and copper-based master alloys.
AZTERLAN manufactures master alloys that, when mixed with commercial metal powder, increase their alloying content. For example, an aluminium alloy aimed to be enriched with Cr, Mn, Zn, etc. coud be mixed with aluminium-based metal powder with a high concentration of one or more target alloying elements so that the desired chemical composition can be obtained.
«Our work is aimed at mastering the physics and the chemistry that govern the behavior of metallic alloys, the phenomena that take place during manufacturing processes and the conditions that affect the useful life of metallic components.
We rethink metallurgy to develop more effective, efficient and sustainable manufacturing processes that favor the manufacture of components with enhanced properties and that open up new fields of application».
