The project for the development of tailored mooring solutions, FONDEO AD HOC, where IK4-Azterlan participates, is facing its final work packages.

The research team formed by VICINAY CADENAS, VICINAY MARINE INNOVATION, GERDAU, IK4-TEKNIKER, CSIC and IK4-Azterlan is reaching the final milestones for the FONDEO AD HOC project, financed by the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (MINECO) int the frame of the INNPACTO 2012 program (Expediente IPT-2012-1167-120000).

In the frame of a strongly inter-disciplinary project, IK4-Azterlan has worked on the hydrogen embrittlement processes that are developed in submerged mooring chain steels. In order to study different service conditions, several sea environments and cathodic protection levels have been simulated at a laboratory scale. The results will allow, in the short term, the tailoring of the chain designs to any mooring site in the oceans around the world.
