The last trial set of the Oceanic Project for the development of anti-corrosion and anti-fouling coatings has been submerged in the ocean

The project aims to develop low emission anti-corrosion and anti-fouling coatings for undersea environments. It is funded by SPRI, EVE, SWEA, CDTI y FCT by means of OCEANERA-NET (European Ocean Energy Research Network) under the reference OCEANERA/0005/2014.oceaneranet.eu.

As it had been planned, the third and last set of field trials of the Oceanic Project has been submerged in the ocean in the Biscay Marine Energy Platform facilities (Armintza). The trial set is composed by 15 panels (12 metallic and 3 plastic) treated with different innovative eco-friendly anti-corrosion and anti-fouling coatings.

By the end of September, the panels will be taken out of the water to analyze their levels of corrosion and marine biological incrustations. The results of this analysis, along with the results obtained in the previous field tests performed in Armintza and in Almagreira (Portugal), will allow the international team of researchers involved in the project to define which coatings work better to minimize these phenomena.
