IK4-AZTERLAN participated, last 18th February, in the opening of the new foundry plant SP21 belonging the SAKTHI Hindu group.
Sakthi Portugal SP21 is a new iron foundry created to expand the foundry business of this important industrial group. This new unit is created in a project known as “Butterfly”, which includes the installation of machining units, aluminum foundry, surface treatments and assembly of subassemblies, in a smallholding of around 250.000 m2 located in Águeda (Portugal).
IK4-Azterlan has lead the creation of this important project, oriented to a lean manufacturing, without finishing operations and with a very reduced lead time, devoting efforts in the development and implantation of several advanced foundry technologies.
The new plant will count on two independent manufacturing lines, allowing a consolidated productive capacity of 160.000 t/year of ductile iron castings.
The opening of the new plant was presided by the First Minister of Portugal, António Costa, counting with the participation of Mr. Gil Nadais, Mayor of Águeda, Mr. Manickam Chairman & Managing Director of the Sakthi Auto Components Group and Mr. Jorge Fesch CEO of Sakthi Portugal, in addition to several customers groups, suppliers, workers of the group and other collaborator agents in the project.
At the evening, a successful open house event for the community occurred in order to explain the new developments, which received the visit around 6.500 people.
