La Associazione Italiana di Metallurgia (AIM) organized the sixth international High Tech Die Casting 2016 covering all the significant aspects involved in the high pressure die casting industry. The conference was held on 22nd and 23rd June in Venice (Italy).
This congress, with a participation of more than 100 professionals, has turned into a key event for both the academic and industrial community involved in casting processes of aluminum, magnesium and other non-ferrous alloys.
PhD Andrea Niklas, researcher from the Area of R+D of Metallurgical Processes of IK4 AZTERLAN, presented the work “A new secondary AlSi10MnMg(Fe) alloy suitable for manufacturing of ductile aluminum parts by vacuum assisted high pressure die casting technology”, within the official programme of the Congress.
This work is a part of the research carried out in the European project Soundcast (Nº3 15506, FP7-2012-1), which has allowed the development of a new secondary aluminium alloy suitable for the manufacture of highly ductile high pressure die casting parts. The results demonstrate that it is possible to obtain high mechanical properties, fully comparable to the conventional primary alloys for this type of high mechanical property requirement applications in both, test parts and in a real casting. The new recycled alloy presents a series of additional advantages such as of lower cost and reduced die wear and it is ready for industrialization in the manufacturing of structural components.
