Open sea testing activities start for the OCEANIC/ EOCEANIC Project at the wave energy testing site of Armintza.
The international consortium for the OCEANIC Project develops ecologically friendly solutions for the corrosion and fouling protection of WECs (Wave Energy Converters).
In order to ensure that the proposed solutions behave properly in the open sea, the company Recubrimientos Mikra, GAIKER-IK4 and IK4-AZTERLAN Metallurgical Technical Centre coordinate together with WavEC the beginning of a simultaneous testing plan both in the BIMEP (Basque Country) and in the plant OWC PICO (Azores). During the next two years, several protection alternatives are to be tested and improved, all of them specifically thought for their use on the outer skin WECs.
The deployment of this ambitious testing plan has been possible thanks to the support of SPRI, EVE, SWEA, CDTI and FCT, through OCEANERA-NET (Ocean Energy European Research Network) under reference OCEANERA/0005/2014.oceaneranet.eu.
