Researchers from the Metallurgical Technical Center IK4-AZTERLAN presented the work “Processing thickness window for as-cast ausferritic castings” within the 119th Metalcasting Congress, organized by the American Foundry Society, that took place from the 21st to the 23rd of April in Columbus OHIO (USA).
One of the research lines of IK4-Azterlan is focused on the solidification of cast iron to generate an ausferritic matrix within the so called “engineered cooling technology”. The work presented in this important Congress is related to the development of a model based on experimental data, capable of establishing the process parameters to get ausferritic structures in as-cast conditions, for a given cast component geometry.
Additional research works related to this metallurgical field were presented as well in the same technical frame, allowing further discussions and interactions between various researchers and working groups at international basis.
More than 2500 international technicians and specialists took part in the 119th edition of Metal Casting Congress (a reference event in metallurgy and casting processes within the United States), with an outstanding technical program, workshops, panel discussions and more than 250 exhibitors in a parallel international foundry exhibition.
