IK4-AZTERLAN presented the latest advances in two research fields related to the casting surface modification, in order to generate surfaces more resistant to corrosion and oxidation.
The event, organized by the Alliance IK4, was developed on 16th February in Zamudio Technology Park , with an attendance of around 80 people from companies interested on the latest news and tends on the field of advanced materials, capable to answer to hostile environments.
Juan José de Damborenea González, professor of Research of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and the Vice-president of Spanish Materials Society (SOCIEMAT), participated in the occasion, who also served as moderator. Its presentation was about the technological advances necessary to develop the modern societies, which demands new materials and surface modification methods, capable to work in increasingly aggressive conditions.
Likewise, Francisco Javier Ester Sola, professional of the Innovation & Corporative Technology Transfer Department of BSH in Zaragoza, presented some of the representative projects developed in BSH related to materials and applications where the environment is more hostile.
Four centers of the IK4 Alliance (AZTERLAN, CEIT, IKERLAN and TEKNIKER) showed equally different current technological developments in their specialization fields on materials design, treatments and coatings, as well as on testing and characterization fields.
Particularly, from IK4-AZTERLAN two working lines were showed related to the surface modification of castings:
- One of them, searches the generation of a surface coat enriched with some elements, without additional processes of heat treatments, based on diffusion phenomena promoted by the heating detached on the solidification.
- The other, consistent in the manufacturing of bimetal materials, in which interesting material enrichment is carried out on the surface of the casting.
The contents of the event marked interesting versatile tends, open to its application in multitude industrial fields.
