IK4-Azterlan develops thick CTOD testing in the frame of the FLANGEROUTE project.

Forjas Iraeta Heavy Industry, Gonvarri Eólica, IK4-Lortek and IK4-Azterlan keep working in new wind power tower stiffening rings in the FLANGEROUTE project, financed by Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (MINECO) in the frame of the RETOS-COLABORACIÓN 2016 program (Expediente RTC-2015-3720-3).

The latest designs for wind power towers demand higher heights, heavier generators and standing stronger winds. The team for FLANGEROUTE is developing new tower stiffening rings to satisfy these requirements.

One of the roles of IK4-Azterlan in this project is to drain the maximum yield possible from the construction steels employed in stiffening ring manufacture. The most recent activity has been developed in the frame of full-thickness CTOD testing specimens. The achieved testing thickness is at the moment 120 mm.
