On May 16th, the AZTERLAN Metallurgy Research Center will host a technical conference on the main novelties of the upcoming BREF document for the Smitheries and Foundries Industry. The session will provide an overview of the final draft of this BREF. In addition, the most efficient and environmentally friendly practices will be identified, with the aim of promoting continuous improvement and reducing environmental impact at all stages of the process, from the selection of raw materials, energy optimization, emissions control, to waste management.
The “Best Available Techniques Reference documents”, better known as BREF, bring together all the information related to BAT for the prevention and control of environmental pollution by European industries. In February 2024 the E.U. published the draft of what will be the future BREF for the Smitheries and Foundries Industry, affecting Forging and Casting companies, whose entry into force is scheduled for 2025 and which will affect practically all foundry companies in the Basque Country.
This technical meeting, organized by AZTERLAN Metallurgy Research Centre, aims at offering an overview of the document, the new developments and BAT identified, as well as the most relevant implications foreseen for foundry companies.
Likewise, information will be provided on the main milestones associated with the procedure established by the administration for the review and modification of the Integrated Environmental Authorizations and the status of the new Industrial Emissions Directive, as well as on the development of administration actions in matter of foundry sands within the Euskadi 2030 Waste Prevention Plan.
The meeting will also have the participation of experts from the Spanish Federation of Foundry Associations (FEAF), from the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control Area of the Basque Government’s Environmental Quality Directorate (IPPC). -EJ/GV) and IHOBE, Public Society for Environmental Management of the Basque Government.
The event will take place on May 16th at the facilities of the AZTERLAN Metallurgy Research Centre (Durango). Registration to attend the event will be open until May 14th or until there are no more places available.
