This invention relates to a method for accurately measuring the tendency to shrink in a spheroidal graphitic cast iron. The procedure is based on the analysis of the metal cooling curves obtained in the liquid-solid transition process. From these curves, the necessary parameters are obtained to accurately measure the microshrinkage tendency of the aforementioned cast iron, among which are the chemical composition, the degree of spheroidization and size of the spheroids of the graphitic cast iron. The object of the present invention is to extend the application of thermal analysis to a completely new way in order to know the microsink tendency of a molten metal through the application of energy balances.
