Addressing priority technological challenges in critical materials and metals

In 2024, BRTA Basque Research and Technology Alliance developed the white paper “Eco-innovation: Recycling of Key Metals and Critical Materials,” the technological roadmap for addressing the challenge of key metals and critical materials.

This document represents the consensus established on the technological priorities (eco-design of materials – parts – components – products; advanced and digital production technologies; product value retention; upcycling) to address the scarcity and efficiency of critical metals and raw materials.

Lucía Unamunzaga, head of AZTERLAN’s Sustainability and Environment research line, presented this important work at the Basque Circular Summit 2025.
